Good Privacy Policy

Who we are

Good is an iPhone app for finding and reviewing individual dishes and drinks at restaurants, bars, cafés and other places that serve food and drink. It is operated by Scott Schefferstein ("we", "us"), based in Maryland, United States.

This policy explains what information Good collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the Good app and to this website. By using Good you agree to it.

If you have a question about anything here, email support@tastegood.app.

What we collect

We collect only what the app needs to work. There is no advertising, no analytics service and no tracking in Good.

Your account. You sign in with Apple or Google. When you do, we create an account and store:

What you post. Every review you write is stored with your account:

We also store the items you save to Want to try, the users you block, and the reviews you report (with the reason you chose).

Your location. Good asks for permission to use your location while the app is open, so it can show you what is good nearby. Your coordinates stay on your phone and are not stored in our database. However, when the app searches for nearby items and places, it sends our server the map area to search, which on first load is centred on you. Those requests are kept in our hosting provider's logs for a limited time (see How long we keep it). If you decline location access, you can still search by typing a location.

When you review something, we store the location of the restaurant or bar, taken from Apple Maps. We never store where you were.

Your device. To keep fake reviews out, Good checks with Apple that each review comes from a real copy of the app on a real iPhone. We store an identifier Apple creates for your device to do this. It contains no personal information and is not shared.

Technical data. When you sign in, our hosting provider records your IP address and the type of device and app version you used, as part of keeping your session secure. Requests to our servers are logged with their time, contents and your account ID.

What we do not collect. Your contacts, your photo library (you pick each photo yourself), your precise location history, or anything from other apps.

How we use it

We use your information to run Good and for nothing else:

We do not sell your information, show you ads, build advertising profiles, or share your data with data brokers. We do not use your information to train AI models.

What is public

Good is a public app. Anyone using it can see:

Your username is shown on every review you write, so choose it with that in mind. By default it is the name from your Apple or Google account. You can change it on your Profile.

Nobody can see your email address, the items you have saved to Want to try, who you have blocked, what you have reported, or your location.

Who we share it with

We share information only with the services that run Good:

Service

What it does for Good

What it receives

Supabase

Hosts our database, photo storage and sign-in. Servers are in the United States.

Everything in What we collect.

Apple

Sign in with Apple, maps, place search, and App Attest.

Your sign-in with Apple; your location and the map area you view, for maps and nearby-place search; device attestation data.

Google

Sign in with Google.

Your sign-in with Google.

Apple's map services receive your location directly from your phone under Apple's own privacy policy; we do not see it.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to enforce our rules, or to protect the safety of our users. If Good is ever sold or merged into another company, your information would go with it, under this policy or one at least as protective.

We do not share your information with anyone else.

How long we keep it

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from Profile, under Settings. Deletion removes your account, your profile, every review you have written, your photos, your saved items and your blocks. Scores for items and places are recalculated without your reviews. This cannot be undone.

You can also delete individual reviews from your Profile by swiping on them.

If you would rather we do it, or you can no longer sign in, email support@tastegood.app from the address on your account, or with enough detail for us to identify it, and we will delete it for you.

Children

Good is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email support@tastegood.app and we will delete it.

Security

All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted. Your data can only be changed by you. Reviews are checked to confirm they come from a real copy of the app on a real iPhone. Your password is never seen by us: sign-in is handled by Apple or Google.

No system is perfectly secure. If we learn of a breach affecting your information, we will tell you.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local law, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or the GDPR. Everything above is available to everyone, wherever you live. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of.

Good is operated from the United States and your information is stored there. If you use Good from elsewhere, you are sending your information to the United States.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and tell you in the app before the change takes effect. Minor wording changes may be made without notice.
